Sunset on Lake Cawndilla, Kinchega

Lake Cawndilla, Kinchega National Park, NSW

On this particular day in Kinchega National Park, outback NSW, the conditions were just right for a spectacular sunset. The lake which had been dry for years had been filled up by an extraordinary amount of rainfall. The light of the sinking sun was reflected by the cloud cover as well as the surface of the lake, and those amazing shades of red and purple seemed to just bounce off each other - I had never seen anything like it before, or since. The black silhouettes of twisted gum trees, bushes and a lone heron perched on a branch were icing on the cake.
